Spring Puppy Match
April 1st 2012

First of all, thank you to the GGPWCF members for inviting me to judge today.  I consider it an honor, a pleasure, and privilege to be on the ‘other side’ of the ring.  Mother Nature blessed us with clear blue skies, sunshine, and gentle breezes for a most enjoyable day overall.  The one thing that would’ve been nice and greatly appreciated by all was to have had a drier ring with evenly cropped grass.  The exhibitors did their best to have their charges groomed and presented to the best of their ability.  Unfortunately…the mud and tall grass in areas proved to be a challenge and detriment at times, especially for the wee ones.  Observing side gaits today proved to be more difficult.

While many of us may have done the ‘ring-side’ judging and evaluating from what’s going on inside the ring, I truly appreciate the dynamics and views from within.  Again, thank you all for presenting your corgis to me today.

4-6 MONTHS PUPPY DOGS (4 entered, 1 absent)
1. PINEMEADE RISING DRAGON (Ch. Pinemeade Paper Dragon x Ch. Pinemeade Fool Me Not) Breeder: Terry Hansen. Owners: Terry Hansen & Shannon Stone. Tri masculine boy with eye appeal, dark pigment, well set ears.  Appeared to drop off on the croup today and could’ve used more length in the rib cage.  Liked the bone, balance, and clean travel coming and going.
2. BRNAYR SPEAK OF THE DEVIL (Ch. Tri-umph ‘Taint No Saint x Brnayr Mystical Dream) Breeders/Owners: Ann Marie Buonanno, DVM & Vicki Lubarsky. R/W boy with lovely expression.  Appreciated his length but would have more so if he’d been longer in rib.
3. TAMS FASHION FORWARD (Ch. Nebriowa Cole Haan x Tams Show Stopper) Breeder/Owner: Kay Hammel. Tri boy with lots of bone.  Pleasing face with good ear set to add to expression.  Would have liked to have seen more overall length on this youngster as today, he was much too cobby for my liking.

6-9 MONTHS PUPPY DOGS (2 entered, 0 absent)
1. NEBRIOWA PELONA SUPERSTAR (Ch. Nebriowa Zachariah x Pelona Early Promise) Breeder: Ilona Peckham. Owners: Tim Mathiesen & Tomm Dedini. R/W boy who grabbed my attention as soon as he entered the ring.  Confident youngster who carried a level topline the entire time, and clean on move coming and going.  When going over this youngster, I found many of the things I was looking/hoping to feel as I went over each exhibit.  Appreciated his front assembly, length of rib in proportion to loin, nice turn of stifle, and level top line.  I was pleased to award this promising puppy boy BEST OPPOSITE SEX.
2. ZEPHYR’S MAGIC MAN (Ch. Misty Ridge Rumblestiltskin x Zephyr’s Abra Cadabra, CD RN) Breeder/Owner: Judith Neuhaus. A very beautifully groomed and presented RHT boy with a pleasing masculine head. Unfortunately did not carry a level top line and was a bit roachy on this day. Would have appreciated him being longer in the rib cage.

9-12 MONTH PUPPY DOGS (1 entered, 0 absent)
1. NEBRIOWA TATTLE TALE HEART (Ch. Pembury Be Still My Heart x Ch. Nebriowa Vivacious) Breeders/Owners: Tim Mathiesen & Tomm Dedini. R/W boy with lovely expression.  Lacked a level topline today being high in the rear.  Presented himself nicely on the table.

OPEN DOGS (1 entered, 0 absent)
1. BRNAYR MAKE A WISH (GCh. Tromba’s Let’s Do The Time Warp x Brnayr Can You Hear Me Now) Breeders/Owners: Ann Marie Buonanno, DVM & Vicki Lubarsky. Mature dog with masculine head piece and pleasing expression with dark pigment around eyes adding to it.  I was wanting more length of rib on this boy.  A bit high in the rear today, but had a nice turn of stifle.

3-4 MONTH PUPPY BITCHES (2 entered, 1 absent)
1. NEBRIOWA CAPRICIOUS (Ch. Nebriowa Zachariah x Ch. Nebriowa Vivacious) Breeders/Owners: T. Mathiesen & T. Dedini.  R/W youngster with lots of exuberance and energy and a delight to watch such joy.  On the down and back, when coming towards me, her elbows were out and she toed in much more than I like to see in a puppy, especially at this age.  She has lots of time for her to grow into herself.

4-6 MONTH PUPPY BITCHES (11 entered, 3 absent)
1. NEBRIOWA VICTORIA (Ch. Pembury Be Still My Heart x Ch. Nebriowa Veronica) Breeders: T. Mathiesen, T. Dedini, J. Snyder. Owners: T. Mathiesen & T. Dedini. This feminine little R/W girl had attitude and presence the minute she entered the ring and carried herself with balance and ease.  I found her front assembly to be good with a nice laid back shoulder with a complimentary forearm that all put together, allowed her to move out well.  Very clean coming and going and held a level topline going around.  When going over her, I was pleased to feel the length of rib cage in proportion to loin. A definite pleasure to be able to award this little one BEST PUPPY in MATCH who continued to push hard for Best in Match.
2. ROCKY L PENNIES FROM HEAVEN (Ch. Misty Ridge Rumblestiltskin x Larklain Markers Jalapeno Hottie) Breeder/Owner: L & R Halop. Tri girl with solid top line.  Liked the bone on this youngster.  Would have liked to have her longer in length (rib cage), but of course in correct proportions.  Another good mover who’s clean coming and going, but lacked the side gaiting of free easy strides like that of the first place girl.
3. BRNAYR DEVIL IN DISGUISE (Ch. Tri-umph ‘Taint No Saint x Brnayr Mystical Dream) Breeders/Owners: Ann Marie Buonanno, DVM & Vicki Lubarsky. Sable and white solid youngster who was confident in the ring.  Showed a level topline, moved well on the go around, and had a nice turn of stifle which in turn, was a benefit in allowing her to drive off her rear.
4. PINEMEADE PAPER DREAMS (Ch. Pinemeade Paper Dragon x Ch. Pinemeade Fool Me Not) Breeder: Terry Hansen. Owner: Janine Leggitt. Tri girl well presented, who’d gotten blessed with lots of glamorous dark pigment around her eyes.  While I appreciated her good bone, good feet, and being clean coming and going, I was hoping her topline would carry out level, but dropped off in the croup.  Would’ve liked a bit more length on her; a longer rib cage in proportion to her over all length.

6-9 MONTH PUPPY BITCHES (3 entered, 1 absent)
1. TAMS ANNIE BAILEY (Ch. Nebriowa Zachariah x Tams Dreamgirl) Breeder/Owner: Kay Hammel. R/W girl who’s had a few too many kibbles up to this day, and wasn’t behaving as nicely as she could have.  Lots of bone and held a level topline.
2. GOLDEN ROAD’S STARRY STARRY NIGHT (GCh. Tromba’s Let’s Do The Time Warp x Golden Road’s Dixie Pearl) Breeders: Christine Johnson & Karen Howard. Owner: MB Donnelly. R/W girl who simply did NOT want to be a show girl at the match at all.  Her energy level was not contained on the ground nor on the table. Was one of the leggiest girls today.  Lacked in correct front assembly and front toed out much too much.

OPEN BITCHES (2 entered, 0 absent)
1. BRNAYR SO DELICIOUS (Ch. Honeyfox So Dash ‘N Debonair x Brnayr Mystical Dream) Breeders/Owners: Ann Marie Buonanno, DVM & Vicki Lubarsky. R/W mature girl who strode into the ring with confidence and correctness.  Side gait was a delight to watch with good reach and drive while holding a level topline.  Not in the best of coat condition as the 2nd place girl, but certainly made up for it when I put my hands on her to go over her.  Lovely length of neck that blended into the back, good laid back should with complimenting forearm which allowed this girl to move and move out well, and correct proportions of longer rib cage to length of loin.  This r/w girl pretty much had the complete package overall today and was awarded BEST IN MATCH.
2. ROCNL BE MINE (Ch. Tams Monte Carlo x Ch. Tromba’s Do The Hokey Pokey) Breeders: L & S Craig & E & L Perlson. Owners: L, R & S Craig. This lovely girl sailed into the ring with no effort and commanded one’s attention.  Beautifully groomed and presented, but unfortunately on this day was lacking in a level topline being noticeably high in the rear.  On the down and back, her front right turned out a bit.
